1.
I'm writing a letter Filled with words which Can't make it past my lips, But come to life When, dripping from the nib, Fall on cotton. Crafting a melody Conveying moods My face cannot display, But come to life When, singing from the strings, Float in the air. You won't get the message. Won't hear a word. That conversation will not Occur for us. Communication fails. The silence wins.
2.
A New Story 03:13
My story is my own to tell A tale not long, nor dark But muddy, muddled, and mundane With anti-climactic arc I'd rather hear the tale of you A tome I don't yet know With twists and turns – with joy and tears Where you've been and where you'll go And we could start a story new With stars and clouds above Not fantasy nor fairy tale Just light, and life, and love
3.
I'll whisper in your ear Whenever you are near I love you, oh I love you I love you, oh my dear Hold your hand in mine Tell you you're divine I love you, oh I love you You'll return in kind And when we're old and gray We'll not forget to say I love you, oh I love you Every single day I'll whisper in your ear Whenever you are near I love you, oh I love you I love you, oh my dear
4.
A classic cocktail in your hand You dance whenever there's a band You turn all the heads in the room Image of 1962 A yellow dress and red lipstick I would make you my dance-card pick You turn all the heads in the room Image of 1962
5.
Nastasya 03:33
You're my Nastasya, You'll be the death of me. I'm just the idiot, Captured by your beauty. I can't save you from yourself I can't save myself from you They say you're hopeless And you believe them too They say you're shameless I see it's consumed you I can't save you from yourself I can't save myself from you You have worth beyond all measure A worth not even you can spoil I can't save you from yourself I can't save myself from you
6.
Pour another one for me Fill up another glass Libations free the spirits Spirits kill the past I drink to pass the time To calm a troubled mind I drink to all who'll raise a glass I drink to kill the past Pour another one for me Fill up another glass Libations free the spirits Spirits kill the past I seek out bravery To be all I can be But I can't be without my glass I drink to kill the past Pour another one for me Fill up another glass Libations free the spirits Spirits kill the past
7.
Waiting 03:14
Waiting Look out the window Static horizon beyond a blur of brush What I left behind, I left behind. All that lies ahead is blind. Waiting Look out the window Static horizon beyond a blur of brush What I have to lose, I've lost before. I could never lose what's at my core Waiting Look out the window Static horizon beyond a blur of brush
8.
Never had the courage To tell you how I feel Never could bring myself To speak of your appeal Time passed so fast Before I knew it you were gone Never came to pass Never had the courage To tell you how I feel Never could bring myself To speak of your appeal My chance is shot Is it forever? I don't know I can hope it's not
9.
The sweet young girl from down the way Had fallen for a rogue. A silver tongue, seersucker suit, A taste for all in vogue. Though she was not but four and ten They Hastily eloped. His prize in hand, his mask came off, Destroying all she'd hoped. The callous man's abusive hands Left bruises, cuts, and scars. A pinch of arsenic in his soup Would be a change in stars. She packed her bags the morning of And served the man his death. A life of cherished sovereignty Began with his last breath.
10.
Zombie Queen 03:11
Your trail of slack-jawed stricken Clambering to be the next Undead masses heed your every word Zombie Queen! Undead Princess! Infecting all within your reach! Revel in your horde While they have yet to turn Undead coup is festering now Zombie Queen! Undead Princess! Infecting all within your reach! I won't be touched! I won't be tainted! I won't drink your brew! Zombie Queen! Undead Princess! Infecting all within your reach!
11.
I don't know where this road leads It winds beyond the pass I could be safe at home here But safety rarely lasts You could have an easy And well-adjusted life With clean pastoral problems Not terrifying strife But what's beyond the mountains? What's on the other side? Where all of that adventure Awaits along the ride Let's head out together Let's face the road unknown We will encounter danger But never will alone.
12.
Spin, spin, a golden thread A thread to bind my heart Spin your thread with smiles and laughs Of moments filled with glee Spin, spin, a golden thread A thread to bind my heart Spin your thread with stolen looks When your eyes lock with me Spin, spin, a golden thread A thread to bind my heart Spin your thread with sighs and whispers Resting in my arms Spin, spin, a golden thread A thread to bind my heart Spin your thread with tears and sobs Together we will share Spin, spin, a golden thread A thread to bind my heart Spin your thread of love such that Forever we may be

about

Spirits Kill the Past is the first album from Bitters McAllen

Thanks to my parents, Ron and Betty Allen, who have supported my aspirations with their words, their money, and their hearts. Richard and Anthony, who have been with me through so much. My entire extended family, who I run into wherever I go around the country. My friends, who endure long absences and short reunions. All of the musicians I’ve had the pleasure to play with: jazz bands, church bands, and garage bands in high school and college; the worship team at Grace; the folks who made my house on Wildwood a home; Run Boy Run; and the friends I’ve made on stage and in studio. Paul, for being one of the most supportive people in my life, and letting me borrow his Telecaster. The good people at Rainbow Guitars and The Folk Shop. And all of the friends and fans who have been waiting for this record for too long.
